The pattern of Churchill Blue Willow takes inspiration from an ancient Chinese fable which is depicted across the range in the Blue Willow pattern.
The legend of Blue Willow:
Once in ancient China, there lived a rich Mandarin man whose beautiful daughter was betrothed to a wealthy old merchant. Her affections, however, lay elsewhere – on her father’s poor but handsome secretary. When their secret meetings were discovered the girl was imprisoned in her father’s pagoda. From there she concealed messages in coconut shells and floated them downstream to her lover.
The Mandarin man, sensing something was going on, hastened the wedding arrangements, but the secretary and daughter promptly eloped.
In a small boat, right in the middle of the sea, the Mandarin man caught them. In his parental wrath he decided to beat them to death when divine intervention caused them to turn into a pair of turtle doves.

OK let’s be honest it was a wash-out bank holiday weekend but it’s still August (just) and, according to the latest media reports, summer is set to make a brief return thanks to Hurricane Cristobal which will see a burst of warm air from the Caribbean.
Now that summer is back on the cards, with warmer weather returning at the start of September, you might want to stock up on those all important disposable plastic glasses!
Here at Stephensons, we stock and supply a wide range of plastic glassware and disposable glasses which are perfect for busy bars and pubs. As a trusted supplier of disposable glassware, we distribute affordable, quality plastic glasses to large organised events and venues across the country.
Come rain or shine, plastic glasses offer a safe, practical and convenient alternative to traditional glassware. But surely, I hear you ask, a plastic glass is a plastic glass, right? Wrong. How many times have you split your beer by simply trying to hold your plastic beer glass? How many times have your plastic glasses split and cracked only to render them useless? It’s all to do with the quality.
We’ve been hard at work, stringently testing out a wide range of beer glasses and other disposable plastics to ensure that we are able to offer quality, style and great value. Check out this video to see what we found and why we would suggest the Cryovac disposable plastic pint glass offers the best value without compromise on quality – a small amount of beer was consumed in the making of this video, for testing purposes of course!
And for when a pint just isn’t enough, this two pint reusable plastic tumbler should keep your customers happy with fewer trips to the bar!
If, however, it’s a premium plastic glass that you’re after it just has to be a Katerglass disposable plastic glass, available in a range of sizes. Injection moulded, these disposable glasses are extremely rigid for a secure hold.

If, like us foodies, you were up Saturday morning watching the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, you will have seen Chef, James Martin use a curious piece of kitchen equipment to gently smoke lobster.
The dish, warm smoked lobster salad with radish, and a lime vanilla mango dressing was, overseen by British singer-songwriter and actress Paloma Faith. In her usual eccentric style and as she waved away excess smoke, Paloma asked James where a smoker could be bought from. Slightly startled and in true live TV style, James quickly threw a vague reply back, ‘err – a shop, the internet!’ At this point our Customer Services Manager, Peter Crossen, was shouting Stephensons at his TV. And no, Paloma, it’s not complicated at all!
In fact, with the Polyscience handheld smoker you can quickly finish foods with natural cool smoke and create a whole host of amazing flavours. In comparison to traditional smokers, which use heat and require a long smoking time, this smoking gun results in a lighter infusion and / or a subtle finish of smoke. This smoker is perfect for smoking food such as meat, fish, vegetables and even delicate foods such as cheese and butter.
Stephensons catering equipment suppliers take a look at what makes the Zena Star Peeler legendary.
Legendary? OK, so it’s a big statement but one which is fully qualified! Available here at Stephensons, the world famous peeler is a heavy duty version of the original Rex peeler.
So what makes it legendary? Besides the ergonomic stainless steel handle, the hardened blue steel blade and the fact that it’s the sharpest peeler on the market, this humble little peeler has earned an honourable place in the Hall of Postal Fame. Back in 2004, the Swiss Post dedicated a new 15 centime stamp design to the Zena peeler.
The Zena peeler has come to be an embodiment of Swiss functional design and has been exhibited in the world’s most renowned museums, frequently featuring in art and design literature.
The original Rex peeler first made its debut in 1947 and was the brainchild of Alfred Neweczerzal. His invention went on to become a true design classic thanks to its practical, award winning form.
The successful minimalist design incorporates a U-shaped aluminium handle with a pivoted sharp tempered steel blade and a side knife for cutting out potato eyes.
Rex’s big brother, the Zena Star peeler was later designed as a heavy duty version for professional catering use. The blades and ergonomics are identical to the Rex but the evolved peeler features a stainless steel handle, favoured among professional chefs.
Zena, the company behind this handy fruit and vegetable peeler, is based just outside of Zurich and manufacturers more than two million peelers a year, of which 60% are exported abroad.
